Welcome to Fifth Grade
As you think about a new school year, I want you to consider the picture of the tree. Our community and our relationship are like the roots of this tree. We all come to 5th grade to grow as learners and individuals. We will become connected in our purpose just like the roots of the tree, helping each other succeed.
Think about these 4 questions:
Do I know my voice?
How do I name the moment?
How do I understand my capacities?
What should be my interventions be?
We are going to be a GREAT community of Fifth Graders!

~ Our Class Motto ~
"Do the right thing, just because it's the right thing to do. Try to avoid doing
wrong things, just because they're wrong."
~ A few of the things we talk about in class to reinforce our motto ~
* When we do mistakes (we all do most every day, and that's ok!),
we will learn and grow from them, making us better than we were
before.
* Don't focus on not doing wrong things because we are worried about the punishments we might receive. If we do
our best to avoid doing wrong things, we don't even have to worry about
consequences! Besides, do we really want to act in a way that makes those who
love us feel like they need to punish us?
Multiplication For a Few Weeks Standard
M3N3a
Students will be able to apply the identity, commutative, and associative properties of multiplication and be able to verify results.
Notes
The Properties of Multiplication
Properties are the rules of multiplication and make problem solving easier.
1. Commutative- It doesn't matter what order you multiply 2 numbers. The answer is always the same. Ex: 2x3=3x2
2. Associative-When multiplying 3 or more numbers together, it doesn't matter how you group them together. The answer will always be the same. Ex: (3x4)x7=3x(4x7)
3. Identity-When multiplying a number by 1 the answer is always the same number. Ex: 7x1=7
